Dr. Hawryluk recommends bringing your child in for their first visit between 1.5 and 2 years old, so we can assess your home hygiene routine early and prevent issues before they start. Around age six, when the first permanent molars erupt, we may discuss dental sealants, a simple, drill-free way to protect teeth from decay. Second molars typically erupt around age 12, offering another opportunity for preventive sealants.

Monitoring Jaw And Teeth Development
We monitor how your child’s jaw and teeth are developing over time. A narrow jaw or high palate can sometimes be treated with a simple appliance called an expander around age 8-10, potentially reducing the need for braces later. We also offer habit-breaking appliances to help address thumb sucking and correct open bites.
Gentle Cavity Care When Needed
Even with excellent home care, some children develop cavities. If a primary tooth needs a filling, Dr. Hawryluk uses techniques designed for precision, speed, and comfort, helping preserve the tooth as an important space holder for permanent teeth underneath.

For some children, dental work under general anesthesia is the best option. St. Lawrence Dentistry has held a General Anesthetic Permit from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons since 2005, with care provided by board-certified medical anesthesiologists on staff at local hospitals.
